Three published buckets, not one unique-people census: 1,582 publisher-contact emails; 207 advertising-partner emails; 1,033 SmartNews user internal IDs that the company says cannot identify a person on their own. Passwords, cards and other high-risk fields not included. No secondary harm confirmed. recordsAffected 2822 is the sum of those three record counts.

Root cause
Unauthorised access on 31 October 2026 to systems SmartNews operates. Separate from a 22 October security issue the company had already disclosed. Points and rewards were abused; some app features were paused. The 6 November notice is the personal-information finding from the 31 October access.
