Halifax Water discovered a privacy breach involving its Customer Connect online portal in early March 2026. The utility shut down the portal March 5-6 to investigate unauthorized access to customer information. The Customer Connect portal allows customers to access account info, receive alerts, review water usage, and view billing. Halifax Water has not confirmed the full scope—when the breach occurred, how long it lasted, or exactly what data was accessed. No indication that financial or banking information was compromised. Halifax Water notified Halifax Regional Police, Nova Scotia Regulatory Appeals Board, and Privacy Office. Portal remained offline during investigation. This is Halifax Water's second privacy breach (prior in 2023).
