A laptop containing
names, addresses, birth dates, Social Security numbers and other information
of 196,000 Hewlett Packard, Compaq and DEC retirement account customers
was stolen. Fidelity contacted the customers and paid for one year of credit monitoring services. Fidelity also pledged to pay for unauthorized transactions in pensions or retirement accounts that occurred due to the theft.
