Cybersecurity researcher Jeremiah Fowler discovered a publicly accessible database containing 86,859 screenshots collected by stalkerware installed on a single celebrity victim’s device—indirectly exposing private communications with models, influencers, and public figures.
What was exposed
Per ExpressVPN and ITWire reporting, the database captured Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, and TikTok chats, video calls, contact lists, invoices, IDs, phone numbers, and emails—many belonging to people who never knew they were being surveilled.
Why this is different from a corporate breach
The database was operated by an individual stalker who misconfigured cloud access controls—not the spyware vendor whose name appeared on the bucket. Fowler notified law enforcement and the primary victim.
How to protect yourself
- Never give unattended physical access to your phone—stalkerware usually requires device access.
- Review installed apps, device-admin permissions, and accessibility settings regularly.
- Remember: end-to-end encrypted chats can still be captured via screenshots on a compromised device.
