Kenya: Kabogo Confirms Ruto Website Cyberattack

July 18, 2026: Kenya's ICT Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo confirmed that the official Presidency site president.go.ke was compromised. Attackers replaced the homepage with messages aimed at President William Ruto and demanded 5 Bitcoin (about KSh 41 million).

What happened

Nation Africa and Anadolu Agency reported Kabogo saying access was temporarily restricted while technical teams restored operations and hardened the platform. This is a website takeover / defacement-plus-ransom story—not a published dump of every citizen's national ID—in the open reporting reviewed for this entry.

What you should do

  1. Ignore any "State House / presidency ransom" payment instructions; they are fraud.
  2. Bookmark restored official URLs only from known government channels.
  3. Canonical record: Kenya Presidency website incident on BreachHistory.
