2026 BitMart — hot-wallet hack of about $391,000 on Base, Arbitrum and Optimism; founder confirms it and links it to the Mercado Bitcoin attackers (unverified)
Data compromised
Funds, not personal data. Bitquery puts the amount at about $391,000, moved from addresses on the Base, Arbitrum and Optimism networks. No customer data exposure has been reported in the coverage reviewed.
Technical writeup
Protos reports that the "severely understaffed" wording is not attributed to Xia. Its only dated Xia post in the text concerns a closed-door meeting with top users, not the hack.
Root cause
Founder Sheldon Xia confirmed the hack in a post on X and described it as a small-scale incident with a limited amount of stolen funds. Coverage says it happened on Monday, November 2; that date is inferred from "Monday". Xia said an investigation had started. Coverage reports that he blamed a shortage of security staff; outlets quote the wording differently. Xia says BitMart's findings suggest the same attackers hit Mercado Bitcoin. That link is his claim and has not been independently verified.
